BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Elmira College women's basketball program battled against the top-seed SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles on Saturday in the first round of the Empire 8 Tournament as the Soaring Eagles dropped a 101-62 decision. Elmira made its third straight appearance in the E8 Tournament, its longest stretch since playing for the title in 2006 and 2007.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Elmira opened the game on a 5-0 run as Laura Bogota '25 connected on a 3-pointer with 8:46 left in the first quarter. D'Asia Jones '25 would later tally five unanswered points for EC to knot the score 14-14 with 3:30 left.
- Taylor Jung '25 finished a layup with 2:09 left to knot the score 18-18 before the Golden Eagles closed on a 7-0 run to take a 25-18 lead into the second quarter.
- Elmira would get an early 3-pointer from Mallory Welty '26 to trim the deficit to 27-21 as the Golden Eagles would counter with a run to take a 40-21 lead with 5:51 left in the quarter. Nevaeh Winston '25 would end the run with a pair of made free throws before Jones connected on a 3-pointer.
- Jones would hit a late trey for the Soaring Eagles in the quarter to cut the gap to 51-35 before Brockport converted on three free throws to take a 54-35 lead into the half.
- Elmira's best stretch of the second half would come with 5:44 remaining in the third quarter as a layup from Winston, followed by a trey from Bogota, sparked a 10-0 run for the Purple & Gold.
- EC rallied to trim the deficit to 66-50 with 4:31 left as Jung connected on a trey of her own to pull the Soaring Eagles within 16.
- Jung finished with a team-high 15 points for the Soaring Eagles, while Jones added 14 points and Bogota 11 points for Elmira. Winston finished the contest with eight points and nine rebounds, while Amarionah Dixon '26 had a team-high 12 boards for the Purple & Gold.
