Soaring Eagles Earn a Split at Rutgers Tri Match

ELMIRA, NY – The Elmira College Soaring Eagles traveled to the Garden State on Saturday for a Tri Match at Rutgers University Newark and finished the day with a 3-0 win over Drew University and a 3-2 loss to the host.

JUST THE BASICS (MATCH ONE):

HOW IT HAPPENED (MATCH ONE):
Jordan Peiser '24 (14), Luke Jata '27 (11), and Paten Buckwalter '28 (eight) led the Soaring Eagles in kills in the win over Drew.

Peiser notched a match-high three service aces while Jata and Gabe Staron '27 each finished with a pair of aces.

Buckwalter held a heavy presence at the net, finishing the match with a game-high four blocks.

Max Cohen '25 once again led the way with 26 assists for EC, which also ranked first in the match.

RECORDS: Elmira (15-5, 0-4), Rutgers (17-7, 3-1 CVC)

HOW IT HAPPENED (MATCH TWO):
Despite leading 2-0, the Soaring Eagles couldn't put the Scarlet Knights away when they had the chance to do so.

Peiser (17), Jata (11), and Buckwalter (10) repeated as the team's leaders in kills. The trio also combined for four service aces with Jata leading the way with two.

Staron and Peiser each picked up a pair of blocks in the second match while Cohen amassed 42 more assists, bringing his daily total to 68.

UP NEXT:
Elmira will head to Dallas, PA to take part in the Misericordia Tri Match next Saturday, Mar. 22. The Purple & Gold will take on Arcadia University at 2 PM before competing against the Cougars at 4 PM.
