Cardinals Sweep Saturday Doubleheader with Soaring Eagles

ELMIRA, NY – The Elmira College Soaring Eagles dropped both games of Saturday's double header against the Cardinals of St. John Fisher on Saturday afternoon at Holding Point.

GAME ONE:

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME ONE):

The Cardinals jumped out to a 4-0 lead in their half of the first inning by way of a Jordan Perry grand slam. A Bryan Jimenez '25 sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first gave EC a run back, cutting the lead to 4-1.

SJF tacked on two more in the top of the second, making it 6-1. Elmira answered with another sac fly, this time off the bat of Kaden Bolt '26, making it a 6-2 game after two frames.

Another four-run inning for the Cardinals in the third combined with two more runs in the fourth put the red birds ahead 12-2 after four.

An RBI single from Connor Stone '26 that plated Nick Lees '25 made it a 12-3 game in the bottom of the fifth.

SJF added another seven runs in the top of the sixth before Chris Jones '25 drove home Xander Canfield '26 and Stone picked up another RBI with a sac fly, resulting in the 19-5 final.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME TWO):
A five-run first for SJF spelled the end of Miller's day in the first inning in game two. Another pair of runs in the third made it a 7-0 game through three innings.

SJF picked up an eighth run in the fourth and the Soaring Eagles responded with three of their own in the bottom half of the inning. It began with an RBI single from Lees, plating Canfield and Brett Warden '25. Soon after, Jimenez knocked in Mateo Salvati '26 with an RBI groundout.

In the fifth, Canfield reached on a fielder's choice that brought home AJ Ramirez '27.

A seven-run sixth inning and another run in the top of the seventh from Fisher put an early end to game two, as the Cardinals beat EC 16-4 in seven innings.

UP NEXT:
The Soaring Eagles and Cardinals are back at it again tomorrow, Sunday, Mar. 23 to wrap up their three-game series. First pitch from Holding Point is slated for 2:00 PM.
