ELMIRA, NY – The Elmira College Soaring Eagles split Sunday's doubleheader with the Utica Pioneers at Holding Point Recreation Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME ONE):
Following a scoreless opening frame, the teams traded runs in the second, with the Pioneers going ahead 3-0 in the top half before a six-run bottom half for the Soaring Eagles. The highlight of the inning was Mateo Salvati '25 two-run shot, plating himself and Sean Deaner '26.
Brett Warden also drove in a pair in the inning with a two-run single.
Connor Stone '26 drew a bases-loaded walk, and
Nick Lees '25 ripped an RBI single.
Utica got one back in the third by way of the long ball. Warden's sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the inning restored the three-run lead for Elmira.
Another solo shot for the Pioneers followed by a three-run double put Utica ahead 8-7 in the fourth.
Bryan Jimenez '25 found a way to even it up as he reached on an error by the Pioneers' first baseman, scoring Salvati and retying the game at eight.
Utica pulled ahead 10-8 with a two-run homer in the top of the sixth but Lees responded with a two-run shot of his own, once again tying the score at 10.
An RBI single from Franky Milone '26 put EC ahead 11-10 in the bottom of the sixth. Utica responded with a pair in the top of the seventh to squeak out a one-run win, 12-11.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME TWO):
The Purple & Gold struck for four runs in the first inning, jumping out to a 4-0 lead.
Xander Canfield '26 got the rally started with an RBI single, driving home
Gabe Fellows '26. Salvati drew a bases-loaded walk, bringing in Warden. A two-run single from
Ryan Trenholm '25 capped off a productive first frame for the Soaring Eagles.
Utica would respond with four runs in the second, tying the score at four.
An RBI single from Michael Flint put the Pioneers ahead 5-4 in the third but the Pioneers' offense was stifled the rest of the way by the Elmira pitching staff.
A three-run third inning for EC made it a 7-5 game. Salvati doubled home Lees to begin the scoring. Next, a Trenholm squeeze bunt brought in Stone. Finally, a balk allowed Salvati to make it home safely.
An RBI single from Milone in the fifth made it 8-5 Soaring Eagles.
A pair of bases-loaded walks from Warden and Canfield each plated a run, making it 10-5 EC.
Jack Finnerty '23 started the game, going the first five innings, and earning the win before Nick Miller '26 held the Pioneers scoreless through three innings.
Luke Kraft '27 finished the game with a scoreless ninth.
