MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The 2025 season for the Elmira College softball program opened in North Carolina on Tuesday as the Soaring Eagles faced the Pfeiffer University Falcons at Jack Ingram Field. The Falcons, who have already played a handful of games this season, notched a 9-0 win in game one and an 8-1 win in game two against the Soaring Eagles.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Hannah Colwill '27 opened the season with a leadoff single in the top of the first inning of game one for the Soaring Eagles. EC would strand a runner on base as the Falcons worked around the leadoff baserunner.
- Pfeiffer responded with three runs in the bottom of the first inning, including a two-run home run from pitcher Kenzi Lyall. The Falcons added six more runs in the bottom of the second inning.
- Ashlyn VanFleet '28 recorded her first hit for the Soaring Eagles with a two-out single in the third inning, as EC would leave a pair of runners on base in the frame.
- Elmira loaded the bases in the top of the fourth inning as Jocelyn Jean '27 opened the frame with a single, which would be followed by walks to Katie Distefano '24 and Riley Storrs '27. The Falcons would get out of the inning with a pop-up to escape the jam.
- Allie Mienaltowski '28 made her collegiate debut in the circle for Elmira, tossing 1.2 innings. Mienaltowski recorded her first collegiate strikeout for the Purple & Gold while taking the loss.
- Shelby Dawe '27 closed the game in the circle with 2.1 scoreless innings as she allowed just two hits to go along with four strikeouts.
- Pfeiffer scored a run in the first inning, along with another run in the third inning of game two, before rallying for five runs in the fourth inning.
- Elmira stranded two runners on base in the first inning after Brianna Ramstine '25 and Jean notched back-to-back singles.
- Natalie Tom '25 recorded the first extra-base hit of the season in the second inning with a double to right field. Tom advanced to third on a wild pitch but would be stranded.
- Sophia Temple '28 notched her first collegiate hit and stolen base for the Purple & Gold in the fourth inning.
- Elmira plated its first run of the day in the fifth inning as Asia Curkendall '25 scored on a throwing error by the Falcons after an infield single from Colwill.
- Madison Lodowski '26 took the loss for the Soaring Eagles after working three innings in the circle. Dawe tossed a scoreless inning of relief, while Maryann Sobel '25 tossed two innings as she yielded one run off of two hits.
