Soaring Eagles Drop Empire 8 Softball Twin Bill against St. John Fisher

HORSEHEADS, N.Y. – The Soaring Eagles would come up short twice against St. John Fisher University on Saturday in Empire 8 Conference action at the Holding Point Recreation Complex. The Soaring Eagles dropped the opener by a score of 7-2 before seeing the Cardinals plate 22 runs in game two to secure the sweep.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Sophia Temple hit her second home run of the season for the Soaring Eagles in the bottom of the first inning of game one to give Elmira a 1-0 lead against the Cardinals.
  • The Cardinals knotted the score in the top of the second inning and followed with three runs in the top of the third inning to grab a 4-1 advantage.
  • St. John Fisher extended its lead to 5-1 in the sixth inning, while Elmira answered with a double from Hannah Colwill, allowing Brianna Ramstine to score and make it 5-2.
  • The Cardinals closed the scoring with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning to push the lead to 7-2.
  • Asia Curkendall and Maryann Sobel both recorded a hit in the contest for Elmira. At the same time, Curkendall appeared in her 100th game for the Soaring Eagles, while Sobel went the distance in the circle, allowing seven runs off 14 hits along with one strikeout. 
  • St. John Fisher opened game two by plating seven runs in the top of the first inning and later answered with nine runs in the third inning. The Cardinals also added a run in the fourth inning and five more in the fifth.
  • Colwill paced Elmira with a pair of singles in game two, while Ramstine, Jocelyn Jean, Rachel Lunger, and Riley Storrs also added a hit for the Soaring Eagles.
  • Shelby Dawe suffered the loss in game two for Elmira after yielding 11 runs off seven hits through 2.1 innings of work. Madison Lodowski worked 1.2 innings of relief in the circle for the Soaring Eagles.
