Mienaltowski's First Collegiate Win Highlights Split for Softball against Nazareth

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Wrapping up the week with an Empire 8 Conference doubleheader on the road, the Elmira College softball team was victorious in game two against the Nazareth University Golden Flyers, 4-2. Elmira dropped the opening contest 6-3 after rallying late in the contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Nazareth took an early lead in game one as the Golden Flyers plated two runs in the first inning with a home run. The Golden Flyers added another run via a solo home run in the second inning to take a 3-0 lead.
  • Elmira answered with a run in the top of the third inning as Hannah Colwill produced her team-leading 16th RBI of the season with a sacrifice fly to right field.
  • The Golden Flyers pushed their lead to 4-1 in the fourth inning on a dropped third strike, which allowed a runner to score from third on the play.
  • Asia Curkendall helped close the deficit on the scoreboard to a pair of runs in the fifth inning, as her groundout to the pitcher brought home a run to make it 4-2. Brianna Ramstine scored later in the inning on a wild pitch to trim the score to 4-3.
  • Nazareth answered with two runs in the sixth inning as the Golden Flyers took a 6-3 lead and would close things out in the top of the seventh inning against the Soaring Eagles.
  • In game two, Nazareth would again open the scoring in the bottom of the first inning with a run to take a 1-0 advantage against Elmira.
  • The Golden Flyers extended their lead to 2-0 in the third inning with a run-scoring single to left field.
  • Elmira rallied in the fifth inning, as Colwill doubled to left field to make it 2-1. Rachel Lunger followed with a single that scored Colwill to knot the score 2-2.
  • The Soaring Eagles would grab their first lead thanks to a bases-loaded walk by Kristen Cole, as Lunger would score from third to make it 3-2.
  • Ashlyn VanFleet gave Elmira an insurance run with a triple to right field in the seventh inning as Jordyn Frantz scored to make it 4-2.
  • Allie Mienaltowski picked up her first collegiate win in the circle for the Soaring Eagles. Mienaltowski went seven innings for EC while scattering seven hits and allowing two runs (one earned) to go along with five strikeouts.
 
UP NEXT:
The Soaring Eagles will finish the second game of their doubleheader against SUNY Brockport. The game was suspended due to unsafe playing conditions in the top of the third inning. It is scheduled to resume at 3:00 p.m. in Brockport.
