Softball Uses Game Two Run-Rule Victory to Split with Keuka on Tuesday

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – Allie Mienaltowski took a no-hitter into the fifth inning of game two on Tuesday as the Elmira College softball program recorded a split against the Keuka College Wolves in Empire 8 Conference action. Elmira won game two 13-5 in six innings after falling 6-2 in game one against the Wolves.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Sophia Temple put the Soaring Eagles onto the scoreboard in the top of the first inning of game one with a double, which allowed Brianna Ramstine to score and make it 1-0.
  • Katie Distefano followed by reaching on a fielding error by the Wolves, which allowed Temple to score and push the lead to 2-0 for the Soaring Eagles.
  • Keuka knotted the score 2-2 in the third inning and took a 3-2 advantage in the fourth inning. The Wolves added insurance with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 6-2 lead.
  • Temple finished the game with a pair of hits for Elmira, while five other Soaring Eagles recorded one hit in the contest.
  • Maryann Sobel took the loss for Elmira after allowing three runs through four innings of work, while Shelby Dawe tossed 1.2 scoreless innings to close the game for the Soaring Eagles.
  • Elmira took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning of game two, with run-scoring hits coming from Temple, Jocelyn Jean, and Riley Storrs. Ashlyn VanFleet added a run with an RBI groundout to make it 4-0 in the fourth inning.
  • Three more runs would score for the Soaring Eagles in the fifth inning to increase the lead to 7-0. Kristen Cole highlighted the inning with a triple to center field as Hannah Colwill scored.
  • Allie Mienaltowski entered the bottom of the fifth inning for Elmira with no hits allowed in the circle, before Keuka would rally for five runs off six hits to trim the deficit to 7-5.
  • The Soaring Eagles answered with six runs in the sixth inning as Ramstine was responsible for three of the runs with a bases-clearing double to left field to make it 12-5.
  • Ramstine finished the game with four hits for EC, while VanFleet and Cole added three hits each. Elmira recorded 18 hits and six extra-base hits, as Ramstine had a pair of doubles and Cole a pair of triples.
  • Mienaltowski improved to 3-4 in the circle this season, while Dawe recorded her first save of the season after tossing the final 1.2 innings with a pair of strikeouts.
 

UP NEXT:
The Soaring Eagles will complete their suspended game against Hartwick on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. The game will pick up in the bottom of the fifth inning, and another seven-inning contest will follow at the Holding Point.
