HORSEHEADS, N.Y. – Alfred University picked up a pair of Empire 8 Conference wins against the Elmira College softball program on Friday at the Holding Point Recreation Complex, as the Saxons were 10-1 winners in game one and 6-1 victors in game two against the Soaring Eagles.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Alfred opened the scoring in game one with a single through the left side to make it 1-0 in the top of the first inning.
- The Soaring Eagles answered with the tying run in the bottom of the second inning, as Brianna Ramstine walked with the bases loaded to score Erica Bates from third.
- A pair of runs in the third inning would give the Saxons the lead for good. A fielding error allowed the go-ahead run to score, while a sacrifice fly pushed the lead to 3-1 for Alfred.
- The Saxons erupted for five runs in the fourth inning to extend their lead to 8-1 against the Soaring Eagles. Alfred closed the scoring with two runs in the seventh inning to make it 10-1.
- Hannah Colwill, Katie Distefano, and Shelby Dawe each tallied hits in the game for the Soaring Eagles.
- The Saxons plated four runs in the second inning to take an early lead in game two against Elmira.
- Elmira worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the third inning with a pop-up and a flyout to right field to keep the game 4-0.
- Alfred increased its lead to 6-0 with a pair of runs in the fourth inning thanks to a home run from Molly Whitmyer.
- Down to its final three outs, Elmira sent seven batters to the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning. Distefano opened the frame with a double to right field and would later score on a single by Asia Curkendall to make it 6-1.
- Alfred recorded three consecutive outs after making a pitching change to strand the bases loaded and secure the 6-1 victory.
- Ashlyn VanFleet paced Elmira with a pair of hits in game two as the Soaring Eagles finished with six hits.
