HORSEHEADS, N.Y. – The Elmira College softball program wrapped up its regular season at home on Wednesday, as the Soaring Eagles hosted the SUNY Geneseo Knights for two games at the Holding Point. The Knights would come away victorious in both contests against the Soaring Eagles.

Maryann Sobel established a new program record for appearances on Wednesday, as she made the 83
rd and 84
th appearances of her career for the Soaring Eagles. Sobel passed Kim Schaeffer, who appeared in 83 games between 1995 and 1998.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Following a run scored by Geneseo in the top of the first inning of game one, the Soaring Eagles answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 2-1 lead.
- Ashlyn VanFleet came racing home from third on a wild pitch to knot the score 1-1, while Sophia Temple followed with a single to left field to make it 2-1.
- The Knights would take the lead back with a two-run home run in the second inning to make it 3-2. Geneseo also scored three runs in the third inning and five runs in the fourth inning.
- Asia Curkendall also recorded a hit for the Soaring Eagles in the first game of the doubleheader, while Maryann Sobel took the loss in the circle after working three innings. Shelby Dawe closed the game with two innings pitched for Elmira.
- Geneseo plated a run in the top of the first inning of game two following an error by the Soaring Eagles to make it 1-0.
- A double and a triple in the fifth inning produced a pair of runs for the Knights to increase the lead to 3-0. Geneseo added two more runs in the sixth inning to make it 5-0.
- Elmira loaded the bases in the first inning against the Knights but could not push across a run. VanFleet and Katie Distefano recorded hits in the frame, while Hannah Colwill worked a walk.
- The Geneseo defense would go on to record three double plays in the second game against the Soaring Eagles.
- VanFleet paced Elmira at the plate with a pair of hits, while Allie Mienaltowski tossed six innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits with four strikeouts.

The Soaring Eagles wait to see who they'll play in the first round of the Empire 8 Softball Tournament next week. First-round games are scheduled to be played at campus sites on Tuesday, May 6, at a time to be determined.
