Stone Matches Single-Season Home Run Mark as Baseball Splits with Sage

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Soaring Eagles closed their 2025 season on Sunday with a game two victory against the Russell Sage Gators, as Elmira held off a late rally by the Gators to secure an 8-7 decision. Sage won the day's first game against Elmira in seven innings, 20-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Connor Stone hit a three-run home run in the second inning of game one to knot the score 3-3 for the Soaring Eagles. The home run was Stone's seventh of the season, which ties the program's single-season record, set last year by Erik Charnetski.
  • Stone added an RBI double in the third inning to trim the Sage lead to 8-4.
  • Gabe Fellows provided the fifth run of the contest for the Soaring Eagles with a run-scoring single to score Alex Gross.
  • Fellows, Stone, and Nick Lees each finished with two hits in the game for Elmira.
  • Bryan Jimenez knotted game two with a solo home run in the fourth inning for the Purple & Gold.
  • The Elmira offense put together a five-run rally in the fifth inning to take a 6-1 lead against the Gators. Brett Warden gave Elmira a 2-1 lead with a single that scored Fellows.
  • Matteo Salvati, Chris Jones, and Ryan Trenholm also added run-scoring singles in the frame for Elmira.
  • Sage scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to trim the deficit to 6-3 and tallied two more runs in the seventh inning to cut the gap to 6-5.
  • Elmira responded with two runs in the eighth inning as Salvati and Jimenez recorded singles to push the lead to 8-5 for the Purple & Gold.
  • The Gators hit a two-run home run in the ninth inning before Warden recorded three straight outs to secure his first save of the season and the 8-7 victory for the Soaring Eagles.
  • Ryan Wiser took a no-decision for Elmira after allowing one run off two hits through three innings of work. Nicholas Miller recorded his third win of the season after working two innings out of the bullpen.
