Men's Soccer Remains Unbeaten in Empire 8

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Soaring Eagles remained unbeaten in Empire 8 play after a 2-0 victory over visiting SUNY Poly on Saturday. Jose Navea Corporan '27 scored the game winner just 23 seconds after the Wildcats tied the match during the 19th minute of the first half with his second goal of the contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Elmira's Corporan opened the game's scoring after taking a center pass from Daniel Mercedes '27 from the right corner and sending a shot high to the top left corner about 11 minutes into the contest.
  • The Wildcats' Owen Champion tied the match at 18:15.
  • Corporan's second tally came from a shot near the top of the box that hit the crossbar at the left center of the net and deflected to the ground and into the net.
  • Elmira held a 4-0 edge in corners.
  • Shots for the game favored the Soaring Eagles, 15-11, with six finding the target.
  • Corporan, Valentino Aguilera '27 and Ole Esselmann '28 each had a team-best three shots for Elmira.
  • It was Elmira's third-consecutive win over the Wildcats with the first win coming in 2014.
  • Juan Carlos Cruz Gandia '22 registered two saves in the victory.
