Late Goal Lifts King’s College Over Elmira Women’s Soccer

ELMIRA, NY – King's College used a 75th minute goal to propel themselves to a 1-0 victory over the Elmira College women's soccer on Wednesday night at Campus Field.

JUST THE BASICS:
SCORE: Elmira 0, King's College 1
LOCATION: Elmira, NY | Campus Field
RECORD: Elmira (0-2, 0-0 Empire 8), King's (1-2, 0-0 MAC Freedom)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The two teams battled back-and-forth to a scoreless halftime. The Monarchs dominated the first half, holding a 10-1 advantage in shots against the Soaring Eagles. Elmira goalkeeper Sarah Cantrell '29 recorded four first-half saves.
  • The Soaring Eagles turned the tide over the opening thirty minutes of the second half, registering five shots on net and two corners. On the defensive side, they allowed one shot on net and did not concede a corner during that time.
  • The Monarchs responded on a quick counterattack in the 75th minute with Isabella Pacia playing a through ball down the left-hand side to Jenna Waldbillig. Waldbillig gathered the pass and sent a hard shot into the lower right-hand corner past the outstretched hand of Cantrell to put King's College up 1-0.
  • Despite the added pressure of three shots on goal and two corners in the final 15 minutes from Elmira, Waldbillig's goal proved to be the difference maker.
  • Cantrell recorded six saves in the game for the Soaring Eagles.
  • Isabella Reuter '27, Dani Cruz '29 and Faith Ingber '26 all recorded a shot on goal for Elmira.
