PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – The Elmira College men's hockey team welcomed the SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles for a rematch against their UCHC opponents. After a strong 40-minute effort from the Soaring Eagles, Brockport made a late push to win the contest, 5–2.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
Elmira started off hot, with leading scorer Tyler Schwindt burying a wraparound just ten minutes into the game. Both sides traded chances throughout the period, with Elmira outshooting Brockport, 9–8. The two teams went into the first intermission with Schwindt's goal as the lone difference-maker.
The Soaring Eagles carried their strong play into the second period, with Brock MacDonald scoring on a net-front scramble. Elmira continued to dominate the shots and scoring chances, but the Brockport netminder kept his team in the game, and the period ended with Elmira holding a 2–0 lead.
Brockport finally beat Brody Haynes early in the third period, batting in a bouncing puck in the crease. A lethal wrist shot by Brockport's Josh Grund leveled the game at two just three minutes later. Two minutes after that, Brockport converted on a 5-on-3 power play to take the lead. As Elmira pressed for the equalizer, Brockport found the back of the net on an odd-man rush to extend its lead to two. An empty-net goal by the Golden Eagles sealed the game, 5–2.
