NEW HAVEN, CONN. — The Elmira College men's hockey team traveled to New Haven on Friday night to face the Albertus Magnus College Falcons in a UCHC matchup. The Falcons came out on top with a 5–3 victory in a back-and-forth contest.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Soaring Eagles struck first when Cam Lowe's shot found the back of the net on their first power-play opportunity, seven minutes into the game. Corbin Melie struck next, scoring on a rebound in front of the net to double Elmira's lead. The first period ended with EC up 2–0 while outshooting the Falcons, 15–10.
Albertus Magnus scored its first goal of the game on a breakaway eight minutes into the second period. The Falcons found their equalizer shortly after on another rush chance. The Soaring Eagles looked to regain the lead but were unable to do so, as the second period ended with the teams tied at 2 heading into the final frame.
Falcons forward Sam Lozinski put Albertus Magnus ahead, 3–2, five minutes into the third period. Elmira leveled the game shortly after off the stick of Justin Pare, whose wrist shot gave the Soaring Eagles their second power-play goal and tied the game at 3. The Falcons took advantage of the open ice during four-on-four play, retaking the lead with three minutes remaining. With the net empty and EC looking to force overtime, Albertus Magnus sealed the game with an empty-net goal to finish with a 5–3 victory.

The Soaring Eagles will be back in action tomorrow for a rematch with the Falcons at 4:00 PM. They will then face Geneseo in a back-to-back on Jan. 23–24, with the second game taking place at home in the Murray Athletic Center at 4:00 PM.
