NORTHFIELD, VT. – The Soaring Eagles women's hockey team competed in the East-West Classic title game against No. 14 Norwich, where Elmira dropped the contest 5-2.
Iliana Smith and
Anna Lugge earned All-Tournament honors for their performance during the East-West Classic.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
Through the first two periods of play, Norwich was seen recording 12 shots on pipe in the first and second period. Elmira was only seen notching three in the first period and five in the second period. Within the first six minutes of play, Norwich took a 1-0 lead over the Soaring Eagles.
Sara Sevcikova had her work cut out for her, recording six saves before Norwich managed to find the back of the net and garner a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period.
The Cadets carried their offensive momentum into the second period, recording their final three goals of the contest to hold a 5-0 lead at the end of the third period. Elmira tried to create opportunities but were unable to chip at the deficit. In the first six minutes of the final period, a power-play opportunity saw
Alayna Toole and
Savannah Barber find the stick of
Amber Meluzio to net a goal for the Soaring Eagles (5-1). In the ninth minute of play, another power-play opportunity saw
Iliana Smith and
Annie Audet find the stick of Toole to cut the deficit even further (5-2). Even though the Soaring Eagles mustered a pair of goals, it was ultimately not enough as EC dropped the contest 5-2.
