Brockport, N.Y. - The Elmira College women's basketball team traveled to Brockport for a matchup with the Golden Eagles of SUNY Brockport College to open up Empire 8 play. The Soaring Eagles battled but fell short, 75-55.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
Brockport opened the game on a 6-0 run before a free throw from Amarionah Dixon got Elmira on the board. Mia Welty hit a three-pointer in the middle of the quarter to cut the Golden Eagles lead to seven. Brockport went on an 11-0 run but Elmira answered back with a two-point jumper from Mallory Welty right at the end of the first quarter. Brockport started a defensive second quarter on an 11-3 run. Elmira answered back to end the half on a 7-0 run, including four points from Emma Ryan. At the break, the Soaring Eagles trailed 35-20.

Both teams were in a back-and-forth battle in the third quarter of play. In the final minute, the Soaring Eagles were on fire offensively. EC tallied seven points with four coming from Ryan to enter the final quarter of play trailing 54-34. The fourth quarter proved to be the same as both teams put up 21 points. Elmira was able to close the game by going on a 7-3 run including a drained three-point shot by Erin Bracken. The Soaring Eagles fought hard but Brockport secured the win, 75-55. 

LEADERS
Emma Ryan led the way scoring for the Soaring Eagles with 16 points, while going 6-6 from the free throw line and grabbing six rebounds. Mia Welty added 13 points while shooting 83 percent. Mallory Welty tallied eight points along with four rebounds and two assists.

Elmira returns home Friday January 9th, as they host Hartwick College in a conference matchup inside Speidel Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 5:30 PM.
