RYE, N.Y. - The Elmira College women's hockey team traveled to Manhattanville University to face the Valiants in their final series of the UCHC regular season. The Soaring Eagles came out victorious, winning 3-0 Friday night.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
It was a strong first period for the Soaring Eagles, as they dominated shots and scoring chances but were unable to find a breakthrough goal to get on the board. Both teams had a power-play opportunity but failed to convert, and the first intermission arrived scoreless, with Elmira outshooting Manhattanville 9–3.
The second period continued as a defensive battle, with limited shots on both sides. The Soaring Eagles' penalty kill was strong, shutting down a Manhattanville power play while requiring just one save from Olivia Last. Amber Meluzio finally broke through for EC with a backhander to make it 1–0, and the Soaring Eagles carried that lead into the locker room after two.
A Manhattanville power play early in the third period looked threatening, but Last stood tall, making four saves in quick succession as the Soaring Eagles killed it off. MK Boyle's rebound goal gave EC some much-needed cushion, doubling the lead with eight minutes remaining. With the goaltender pulled and Manhattanville pressing to get back into the game, Mo McBride found the empty net to seal a 3–0 win for the Soaring Eagles with just over a minute left.
