Women's Lacrosse Narrowly Falls in Season Opener to King's

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Elmira College women's lacrosse team traveled to King's College to open their 2026 season. A strong second period was ultimately not enough as EC fell just short, 9-6.

Kelsey Stewart led the way for the Soaring Eagles with four goals and three draw controls while Sandra Angell recorded two goals and six draw controls. Kaleigh Krueger was seen notching 12 saves on the day. 

Elmira was first to hit the board after forcing a turnover for King's with Stewart giving EC the 1-0 lead. The Soaring Eagles recorded four shots with two on goal during the first period, closing it with a 1-0 advantage. 

King's quickly evened the playing field two minutes into the second period. Within a minute, Angell won the draw control and EC forced a turnover and collect her first goal of the season to make the score 2-1. On an offensive roll, Angell netted a free position goal to elevate Elmira to 3-1. Stewart netted Elmira's fourth goal off the draw control from Angell. With less than four minutes remaining, the Soaring Eagles were able to clear the ball up field for Stewart to record the 5-1 advantage. With 14 seconds remaining, King's was able to add another to close the period with a 5-2 Elmira lead.

The third period saw Stewart open with her fourth goal of the game to elevate Elmira to 6-2. King's had an offensive surge, scoring four goals. At the end of the period, the game was tied at 6-6. In the final period of play, King's mustered another three goals to ultimately seal the deal leaving Elmira to fall 6-9.

The Soaring Eagles will travel to Alfred, NY to face Alfred State College on Friday, March 6. Game time is slated for 4:00 PM.
