ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Elmira College women's ice hockey team traveled to face the Golden Flyers of Nazareth University. EC was seen tying the match at two late in the third period, but Nazareth's late goal saw Elmira fall short 3-2.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
In an evenly matched contest, both teams were aggressive from the start. In the first period, the Soaring Eagles were seen outshooting the Golden Flyers 10-6. In the first four minutes of play, a penalty on EC gave Nazareth their first power play opportunity.
Olivia Last stood strong between the pipes to hold them at bay. A penalty on Nazareth gave Elmira a chance to hit the board first. At the 17-minute mark, EC took advantage of the power-play opportunity seeing
Alayna Toole and
Anna Lugge picking up assists on
Mo McBride's goal (1-0). Last recorded another save and two blocked shots saw EC end the period with a 1-0 lead.
In the second period, Nazareth was outshot 10-4 by the Soaring Eagles. Shots from Sarah Waszkielwicz, Gabby Doughtery, and
Amber Meluzio could not sneak past the Golden Flyers goaltender. In the final period of play, Nazareth quickly took hold of the lead with their second goal in a power-play opportunity at the 6:34 mark (2-1). Elmira responded with Lugge finding the stick of
Annie Audet to once again tie the match, 2-2. With time dwindling down, the Golden Flyers netted the game-winning goal with less than thirty seconds remaining to see EC fall 3-2.
