GENESEO, N.Y. - The Elmira College flag football team hit the road to SUNY Geneseo for their second Empire 8 matchup of the week. The Soaring Eagles stayed within range until the Knights broke away late in the second half, leaving EC to fall 33-13.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Soaring Eagles were on defense for the first drive of the game. The Knights quickly went to work and took a 7-0 lead over Elmira. The Soaring Eagles looked to move up field with an 8-yard completion from
Hannah Smith to
Faith Ingber and a 7-yard rush from
Jenica Jones. Ultimately, EC turned the ball over on downs.
Kylie Hook stood out on defense with an early sack to hold Geneseo from scoring once again. The Soaring Eagles returned to offense once again, seeing
Nyla Capen rush for 6-yards but were unable to even the score ending the first quarter with EC trailing 14-0.
In the start of the second quarter, Ingber recorded two tackles to force Geneseo to turn the ball over on downs. The Soaring Eagles had a productive drive, seeing
Amarionah Dixon record 31 receiving yards along with Ingber for seven to move up field. A 5-yard touchdown from Smith to Dixon saw EC hit the board and make the score 14-7. The Knights were able to add to their lead with another touchdown and successful PAT attempt (21-7). Ingber continued to make a statement by marking an interception at the end of the quarter, sending both teams into the half with Elmira trailing 21-7.
The Soaring Eagles started with the ball in the second half of play, seeing Hook with a 7-yard reception and Dixon with an over-the-shoulder 34-yard reception but ultimately turned the ball over on downs. The Elmira defense continued to shine, forcing Geneseo to punt the ball in their first drive of the second half. The Soaring Eagles got another chance on offense with a 13-yard interception from Dixon to place Elmira at the Geneseo 37. An 8-yard rush from Ingber put both teams into the final quarter of play (21-7).
Still within reach, a 16-yard touchdown form Smith to Hook brought Elmira closer (21-13). The Knights continued to put pressure on offense, drawing out their drive for seven minutes resulting in a touchdown and successful PAT to elevate to a 27-13 advantage. In their next drive, Smith was able to work the ball to the Elmira 23 but was intercepted by Geneseo. The Knights were able to tack another touchdown onto their lead and left Elmira to fall short, 33-13.
LEADERS
Hannah Smith threw for 183 yards for two touchdowns and 17 completions. Smith marked a game-long of 34-yards. Dixon led with 71 receiving yards followed by Hook with 50 receiving yards. Defensively, Ingber recorded 10 tackles and one interception followed by Hook with eight tackles.

The Soaring Eagles return home to Campus Field in Elmira, NY on Saturday, March 27 to host Russell Sage College in another E8 matchup. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM.
