DALLAS, Pa. – The Elmira College baseball team traveled to Dallas, Pa. for a non-conference matchup with the Cougars of Misericordia University on Sunday afternoon. The Soaring Eagles fought hard but fell in this one, 14-3.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
Kaden Bolt was hit by a pitch to start the game and stole second base during the following at-bat. Two batters later Bolt came around to score when
Jordan Barthel sent a double out to center field to give the Soaring Eagles a 1-0 advantage. The Cougars answered back with four runs in the bottom of the first to put themselves in front 4-1. Misericordia followed up with three more runs in the second inning as they pulled out to a six-run advantage.
Xander Canfield walked in the third and stole second base during the next batter. EC would not be able to score any runs in the inning as Canfield was left stranded.
CJ Wheaton singled to center in the fourth but would also be left stranded on base. The Cougars added another run in the bottom of the inning to take an 8-1 advantage. Bolt was hit by a pitch to get a base runner in the fifth, and it followed by a single for Canfield to put two runners on. Barthel walked right after to load the bases with Soaring Eagles.
Brady Buttice was hit by a pitch to force Bolt into score and cut the deficit to 8-2. Wheaton singled to right field two batters later to bring home Canfield as Elmira picked up another run to make the score 8-3.
Michael Currao pinch hit and walked in the sixth inning but was left stranded on base and EC was unable to score in the inning.
Michael Polsinelli Jr. worked his way through another clean inning on the mound, recording seven straight batters retired. Barthel walked to lead off the seventh inning but would also be left on base as EC remained down by five. The Cougars scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning that pushed their advantage to 10-3.
Sean Deaner singled up the middle in the eighth, but EC could not manage to push any runs across in the inning. Misericordia added four more runs in eighth, ending the game via run rule, the Soaring Eagles falling in this one, 14-3.
LEADERS
Offensively, Wheaton led the way, going 2-4 and tallying an RBI. Barthel was 1-3 at the dish and added an RBI to his total. Deaner tallied a hit in his only plate appearance. Bolt totaled two runs scored.

The Soaring Eagles are back in action on Wednesday April 15th as they travel to Alfred, NY for a matchup with the Saxons of Alfred University. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
