Softball Sweeps Doubleheader against SUNY Morrisville

ELMIRA, N.Y. - The Elmira College softball team hosted the Mustangs of SUNY Morrisville Monday afternoon for a non-conference doubleheader. The Soaring Eagles came out on top in the first game, 10-3 before taking a 4-2 victory in game two.

GAME ONE: Elmira Offense Explodes for 10 Runs
After a one-two-three inning by Hanna Burdick, the Soaring Eagles exploded for four runs in the first. Jocelyn Jean drove in Hannah Colwill with a base hit before Teona Cruz brought home Jordyn Frantz. Elmira then doubled its lead on a Morrisville error to go up 4–0 after one.

The Mustangs responded with two runs in the third to cut into the deficit, but the Elmira offense stayed hot, answering with three more runs. Sophia Polzella's double scored Jean, and a sacrifice fly by Shelby Dawe brought Cruz home. Colwill added another sacrifice fly to score Polzella, extending Elmira's lead to 7–2 after three.

The Mustangs picked up a run in the fourth, but the Soaring Eagles regained their five-run lead on a Dawe sacrifice fly in the fifth. Colwill stole home in the sixth, and Kendall Curreri later scored to give Elmira a 10–3 lead heading into the seventh, where the Soaring Eagles secured the Game 1 victory.

Following a base hit by Kendall Curreri, Hannah Colwill singled to put a runner in scoring position. Sophia Temple then delivered a triple to left field, driving in two runs to give Elmira the lead after five.

The Soaring Eagles added two more runs in the sixth, as Genevieve Geiser scored on a passed ball before Curreri singled to bring Brooke Eastman home. The Mustangs managed one more run in the seventh, but it wasn't enough, as Elmira completed the doubleheader sweep with a 4–2 victory.
