Flag Football Falls on the Road at SUNY Brockport

BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The Elmira College flag football team traveled to SUNY Brockport to take on the Golden Eagles for their second matchup in Empire 8 regular season play. A strong start could not lift the Soaring Eagles to victory as they fell, 38-12.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Soaring Eagles offense started strong as quarterback Hannah Smith connected with Faith Ingber for a 24-yard contested reception on third down before hitting Kylie Hook for a deep touchdown. The Brockport offense attempted to respond, marching down the field, but the Soaring Eagles made a goal-line stand on fourth down as Nyla Capen made the tackle to keep the Golden Eagles out of the end zone and force a turnover on downs.

SUNY Brockport forced a quick three-and-out, but Hook came up big, recording her second interception of the season to regain possession. The Golden Eagles answered with an interception of their own off a deflected pass, then quickly found the end zone as the first quarter ended tied, 6–6.

SUNY Brockport opened the second quarter scoring to take a 12–6 lead. The Soaring Eagles responded as Smith found Ingber on a deep ball over the top to tie the game. The Golden Eagles regained the lead on the following drive, adding a successful point-after attempt to go up 19–12. Another Brockport interception gave their offense the ball back, and they capitalized, finding the end zone once again to extend their lead. They carried a 25–12 advantage into halftime.

The third quarter was quiet offensively for both teams, as neither could find the end zone. The Soaring Eagles put together a strong drive to start the fourth but were unable to convert it into a touchdown. A 34-yard touchdown pass by SUNY Brockport extended their lead to 19. Needing points, the Elmira offense could not respond, turning the ball over on downs.

With strong field position, the Golden Eagles looked to add on, but the Elmira defense forced a turnover on downs to get the ball back. After another three-and-out, Brockport returned an Elmira punt to the two-yard line before scoring on the next play and converting the PAT to secure a 38–12 victory.

LEADERS
Hannah Smith threw for 199 yards and one touchdown, 142 of which were to Faith Ingber. Kylie Hook also contributed 58 yards and one touchdown while also recording an interception on the defensive side.
