UTICA, N.Y. – The Elmira College baseball team traveled to Utica, NY for a conference matchup against the Pioneers of Utica University on Tuesday afternoon. The Soaring Eagles battled but dropped the conference matchup against Utica, 19-1.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
Jordan Barthel started things off with a walk with one out in the first inning.
Connor Stone followed up with a walk two batters later to put two runners on base. Despite the threat Elmira could not push any runs across in the first frame. Utica responded with seven runs in the bottom of the inning to take the advantage 7-0. The Pioneers added two more runs in the second inning to push the advantage to 9-0.
Xander Canfield started the fourth inning off with a walk for EC and stole second base during the next at-bat. Two batters later Canfield came across to score the first run of the game for EC on a groundout by
Sean Deaner. The Pioneers threatened in the fourth with runners on second and third and two outs.
Devin Sullivan got the next batter to fly out to help Elmira escape the jam. The Pioneers added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to extend their advantage to 12-1. Utica scored seven more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to put themselves in front 19-1. Stone and Deaner both reached-on errors to get Elmira started in the seventh inning.
Alex Dinicola got hit by a pitch following that to load up the bases with Soaring Eagles. The Soaring Eagles could not push any runs across in the inning as Utica closed out the contest, Elmira falling in this one 19-1.
LEADERS
Offensively, Canfield led the way, drawing a walk to reach base and scoring a run. Deaner picked up an RBI in three plate appearances. Stone tallied a walk in three plate appearances.

th as they travel to Keuka Park, NY for a conference matchup with the Wolves of Keuka College. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
