Soaring Eagles Fall to Late Surge From Lakers

Elmira, N.Y. – The Elmira College field hockey program opened their season with SUNY Oswego visiting Campus Field. The Soaring Eagles held their own during the first half of play before a Lakers late half burst saw EC fall short, 4-0.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
Both teams battled through a scoreless opening quarter, with both sides earning a pair of penalty corners. Nash recorded both to generate offensive momentum for the Soaring Eagles in the 1:02 and 10:05. Elmira goalkeeper Rodriguez made two saves in the opening 15 minutes to keep Oswego off the board to close the first quarter in a draw.

Elmira continued to create chances early in the second quarter, as Nicole Luther put a shot on goal that was turned aside by the Oswego goalkeeper. Rodriguez answered with three saves of her own before Oswego finally broke through at the 22:52 mark for a 1-0 advantage. Rodriguez kept the deficit at one with another pair of saves heading into halftime.

Elmira came out of the break with its strongest offensive push of the afternoon, generating four shots in the third quarter. Nash recorded three shots during the opening minutes of the period, while Warter added another, but Oswego goalkeeper aside all four attempts to keep the Lakers in front.

The Lakers extended their lead at the 43:05 with another goal after pushing the ball up field. Just 1:51 later, Oswego added another goal to increase their advantage and close the third quarter (3-0).

In the fourth quarter, Oswego continued to apply pressure, but Rodriguez held them at bay with another five saves. EC looked to create offensive pressure with two shots on goal, but with time winding down the Lakers tacked on another goal to see EC drop 4-0.
