Mason Esworthy

Director of Athletics, Rhonda Faunce, announced the hiring of Mason Esworthy as the Club Men’s Ice Hockey head coach during the 2024-25 academic year. Esworthy brings a strong background in video coaching, analytics, and leadership, having worked with professional hockey organizations and collegiate programs.

Esworthy, who will earn a business analytics degree with a sport management minor from Elon University (Elon, North Carolina), has built an impressive résumé in the hockey world. Most recently, he served as Head of Video Operations for the Binghamton Black Bears (FPHL), where he scouted opponents, clipped game footage, and provided crucial insights to the coaching staff. Prior to that, he worked as a Video Coaching Intern for the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs (SPHL), assisting Head Coach Dan Bremner with in-game analysis, lineup preparation, and film breakdown for player development.

In addition to his professional experience, Esworthy has played and coached at the collegiate level with Elon University’s Club Ice Hockey program. As an Assistant Coach and team President, he helped implement systems, organize practice plans, and manage the team’s analytics, scheduling, and financial operations. His leadership extended beyond the rink, serving as Vice President of Programming for Beta Theta Pi, where he managed the organization budget and coordinated large-scale events.
