Cortland, NY – EC Men's Ice Hockey picked up their third straight win of the 2010-11 season as they defeated the Red Dragons of SUNY Cortland 5-1. Tonight's win marks Elmira's final contest of 2010 and leaves them with a 7-5-2 overall record going into the new year.
Darcy Vaillancourt '12 (Bonfield, ONT -- Innisfil Lakers, GMJHL) got things started for Elmira as he netted his ninth goal of the season on a power-play opportunity at the 9:04 mark in the first period. Marty Lee '12 (Toronto, ONT -- Vaughan Vipers, OPJHL) and Brendan Sanders '12 (Mississauga, ONT -- Vaughan Vipers, OPJHL) earned assists on the goal. EC would take a 1-0 lead into the second period.
In the second period Chris Morissette '12 (Beaconsfield, PQ -- RPI) would score the game winning goal on a 5-on-4 opportunity at the 16:49 mark. Kevin Willer '12 (Toronto, ONT -- North York Rangers, OPJHL) and Sanders picked up assists on the game winner. This was Morissette's first goal as a Soaring Eagle. With the goal Elmira would hold a 2-0 lead going into the third period.
The third period would include EC goals from Etienne Archambault '14 (St. Hyacinthe, PQ -- Longeuil, LHJAAAQ), John Clewlow '12 (Brampton, ONT -- Dixie Bee Hives, OPJHL), and Sanders. Manuel Kourtoglou '14 (Pierrefonds, PQ -- Khannawake Condors, LHJAAAQ), Rick Acorn '12 (Barrie, ONT -- Couchiching Terriers, OPJHL), Vaillancourt, Morissette, and Lee tallied assists. Second year goalie Darren MacDonald '13 (Stittsville, ONT -- Nepean Raiders, CJHL) earned his sixth win of the year as he made 29 saves in the 5-1 win.
Elmira will be back in action on January 8th as they take on SUNY Plattsburgh in Plattsburgh, NY. Face-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
