Women’s Volleyball Splits on Second Day at Clarkson Tournament

Potsdam, NY – The Elmira College Women's Volleyball team split their games today beating SUNY Brockport and losing to Springfield College. EC moves to 18-5 on the season and 4-0 in conference.

In the first game versus SUNY Brockport, the Purple and Golf conquered the court winning 25-14, 25-22, 25-16. The team combined for 30 kills, 28 assists, 11 aces, 32 digs and 10 blocks. Leading the team was Brittany Raykoske '12 (Johnstown, NY -- Gloversville) with eight kills, one ace, three digs and three blocks. Also playing a great game were Sasha Zavadska '13 (Bratislava, SVK -- The British School) and Taryn Rumsey '14 (Mansfield, PA -- Mansfield) with seven kills, one assist and two aces each. Francene Cicia '13 (Sunderland, MA -- Frontier Regional) and Amanda Matson '13 (Corning, NY -- Corning West) also made tremendous contributions to the team. Cicia contributed four aces and seven digs, while Matson contributed three kills, one assist, and four blocks.

In the second game versus Springfield College, the Soaring Eagles competed very hard but could not pull off the win losing 31-29, 18-25, 21-25, 22-25. Elmira edged out the first set with 18 kills, but it would not be enough to hold down Springfield. Leading the Purple and Gold in this game were Rumsey and Raykoske with 15 kills each, two assists, two aces, 17 digs, and four blocks. Abbie Martin '14 (Broadalbin, NY -- Broadalbin-Perth), Molly Short '13 (Sterling, CO -- Sterling) and Matson also contributed with 13 kills, 13 digs, and three blocks. In addition, Short  supplied 44 assists while Catherine Miller '14 (Pittsburg, PA -- Penn Hills) supplied 21 digs and three aces.           

The Soaring Eagles will travel to Geneseo, NY to take on tough non-conference opponent SUNY Geneseo in a dual match next Wednesday, October 19th at 7:00 p.m.
