Pine Valley, NY – The Elmira College Field Hockey team was unable to breakthrough against the tough Presidents of Washington and Jefferson College Saturday afternoon. Despite losing 5-0, the Soaring Eagles saw solid performances from their goalies that combined to make 16 stops. The Soaring Eagles now drop to 2-4 in the Empire 8 conference, while the Presidents improve to 4-2.
Washington & Jefferson scored early in the first half and never looked back. The Soaring Eagle defense struggled in the first half giving the Presidents a 4-0 lead, but stood strong in the second half giving up only one goal. Lauren Thomas '14 (Marshfield, MA -- Marshfield) started the game for Elmira making seven saves in the first half. Brooke Ramage '15 (Masonville, NY -- Sidney) ended the game for Elmira making nine saves and only allowing one goal in the second half. The Soaring Eagles were able to get some opportunities to score, but would not be able to capitalize on their opportunities. Shannon Nelligan '14 (Poughquag, NY -- Canterbury) and Sarah Harden-Marshall '14 (Marathon, NY -- Marathon), who combined for three shots on goal, saw the most opportunity for a Soaring Eagles goal.
EC returns to action in its final home game of the season Thursday, October 27th at 4:00 p.m. against non-conference opponent Wells College.
