Elmira, NY – The Elmira College Women's Basketball team fell to the number eight team in the nation, the University of Rochester, 80-36, Tuesday evening in Elmira. The win improves the Yellow Jackets to 4-0, while the loss drops the Soaring Eagles to 0-4.
EC got off to a slow start shooting under 10 percent from the field and trailing 36-7 at intermission. The Purple and Gold were perfect from the charity stripe in the first half, but Rochester knocked down 57 percent of its shots from the field.
The Soaring Eagles came out much stronger in the second half, playing more evenly and improving their shooting percentage by 25 percent. A major reason for the wide scoring margin was the Yellow Jacket's ability to crash the boards as they out-rebounded EC 54-24 in the game.
Jessica Zoltwoski '14 (Erie, PA -- Harbor Creek) led EC with nine points, as she went 3-for-4 from distance. Alex Balara '15 (Marlton, NJ -- Gloucester Catholic) added seven points, two assists, and three rebounds for Elmira. Jodie Luther and Madeline Korber had 15 points apiece and combined for 14 boards for the Yellow Jackets, while Loren Wagner added 14 points and seven rebounds.
