Elmira, NY –The EC Women's Basketball team win its second straight game of the season in dominating fashion against Keystone College Wednesday evening 75-63.
Jessica Zoltowski '14 (Erie, PA -- Harbor Creek) had a phenomenal game scoring 30 points and contributing seven rebounds. The win improves the Soaring Eagles to 2-6, while the loss drops the Giants to 0-7.
In the beginning the game was fairly even with the Soaring Eagles not getting more than a four point lead. With less than 10 minutes left in the first half the Soaring Eagles started to pick up its play making shots and getting rebounds. The Giants would make it close getting some offensive boards and making some open jumpers. However, Jessica Zoltowski '14 (Erie, PA -- Harbor Creek) would make sure that the Purple and Gold stayed in lead by hitting a nice three pointer on the top left side.She lead the team in the first half with 11 points and was closely followed by Maria Thannhauser '14 (Newfield, NY -- Newfield) scoring 10 points. EC would go into halftime leading 28-19 and looking to do the same damage in the second half.
In the second period the Soaring Eagles played hard once again stretching its lead and dominated the rest of the game. EC would score 47 second half points and shoot 50% from the field, 70% from the three point line and 89% from the free throw line. Zoltowski, Kelsey Geisler '15 (Staten Island -- St. Peter's) and Alex Balara'15 (Marlton, NJ -- Gloucester Catholic) all contributed big three pointers for EC in the half. The Giants would try to fight back in the last four minutes of the game, but EC would stay strong. Thannhauser scored 16 points for EC and contributed eight rebounds and four assists. Balara, Geisler, Darcy James '12 (Castile, NY -- Letchworth Central) and Alexis Perryman '15 (Queensbury, NY -- Queensbury) also contributed on the score board. James contributed nine points, while Balara, Geisler and Perryman recorded five points each.
The Purple and Gold will hit the road Saturday, December 10th to take on tough non-conference opponent Vassar College.
