Elmira, NY -- EC Women's Tennis earned another win for the season this evening defeating the Keuka College Storm 9-0. The Purple and Gold came out ready to win this match. Alex Putney '12 (Dundee, NY -- Hammondsport) and Bri Palmiero '12 (Rochester, NY -- Bishop Kearney) at first doubles showed no signs of mercy beating their opponents with almost every shot to win 8-3. Amy Schmidt '15 (Batavia, NY -- Batavia) and Melanie Walker '13 (Scranton, PA -- Scranton) also showed their great doubles skills winning 8-4. The third doubles team of Kayla Fitzgerald '15 (Thomaston, CT – Thomaston) and Elyse Colby '12 (Owego, NY -- Coronado) appeared to struggle at first, but showed their resilience in the end to win the match 8-5
Singles were a battle once again for the Soaring Eagles, but with hard work and determination they prevailed on top. First to the finish line was Schmidt, who demonstrated spectacular play at the number two singles, winning easily 6-0, 6-1. Clinching the match for Elmira was Co-captain Putney who dismantled her opponent 6-1, 6-1. At first singles was Palmiero who struggled at first losing set one 4-6, but looked mighty strong after winning 6-0 in the second set and 10-3 in the third set tiebreaker. Another player who had a very well fought match was Walker who seemed to rule the first set 6-1, but lose sight of the finish in set two. After going to the third set Walker gained much confidence and pulled off the third set tiebreaker 10-6. Fitzgerald and Moskoff continued the team's success by winning at both fifth and sixth singles easily.
The Purple and Gold have high hopes for their next match on Wednesday, September 21 traveling to Rochester, NY to face the Nazareth Golden Flyers at 4:00 p.m.
