Rochester, NY – The Elmira College Women's Basketball team picked up its second conference win in exhilarating style, 47-44, Saturday afternoon against host Nazareth College. The game came down to free throws where
Jessica Zoltowski '14 (Erie, PA -- Harbor Creek) and
Darcy James '12 (Castile, NY -- Letchworth Central) would sink 2-of-4 to give the Soaring Eagles a victory. The win improves the Soaring Eagles to 6-9 overall and 2-2 in Empire 8 play, while the loss drops the Golden Flyers to 9-5 overall and 2-2 in conference competition.
The game would be a battle on the defensive side with neither team getting more than a six point lead. The Golden Flyers got off to a quick start going on a 6-0 run six minutes into the game. However,
Zoltowski would make sure the Golden Flyers did not get a higher lead. Throughout the first half the game would go back and forth with the game being within one point.
Zoltowski would heat up later in the half and score 15 of EC's 22 points going into halftime.

Liz Forrest '14 (North Walpole, NH -- Fall Mountain) and
Tempest Black '14 (Wolcott, NY -- North-Rose Wolcott) would sink some big free throws and jumpers that would help the Soaring Eagles.
At the half the score would be in EC's favor 22-14.
In the second half the Golden Flyers started off well again narrowing the lead down to one point with 14:43 left in the game. Approximately one minute later Nazareth would take the lead with Ashley Gallagher hitting the jumper. The Soaring Eagles would take the lead back with Alexis Perryman '15 (Queensbury, NY -- Queensbury) sinking the layup. EC would then go on a 13-6 run until the last three minutes of the game. Nazareth would make its way back to a one point game with 18 seconds left when Katie Kollar hit a huge three pointer. The game would come down to four free throw shots where EC would hold onto the lead and secure the win. Zoltowski would finish the game with 24 points, five rebounds, two blocks and three steals while James would follow with seven points and 10 rebounds.
Elmira returns to action January 20th as they travel to Utica College to face the Pioneers at 6:00 p.m. in a conference battle.
