Zoltowski Sets Career High As Women’s Basketball Beats Wells

Elmira, NY – The EC Women's Basketball team showed its dominance beating the Express of Wells College 75-46 Tuesday evening in Speidel Gymnasium. Jessica Zoltowski '14 (Erie, PA -- Harbor Creek) set her new career high with 35 points and leading the Soaring Eagles to their third victory of the season. The Soaring Eagles now improve to 3-7, while the loss drops the Express to 1-7.

The game started out very even with neither team gaining more than a four point lead. EC would take its opportunities and start to gain the upper hand by increasing its lead midway through the first half. The Soaring Eagles would stay ahead at the end of the half leading 33-27 and looking to dominate the second half of play. EC shot an impressive 41 percent from the field and 40 percent from the three point line. Leading the way for Elmira was Zoltowski who contributed 22 points and three steals. Alex Balara '15 (Marlton, NJ -- Gloucester Catholic) also helped EC on the score board by contributing seven points, four assists and five steals.

EC dominated in the second half taking advantage of its speed and quickness. The Soaring Eagles would lead by as many as 29 points in the game and would hold the Express to only 19 points in the second half. EC finished the game shooting just over 40 percent from the field and 77 percent from the free throw line. The Purple and Gold had a number of players record points in the second half. Zoltowski lead the way again with another 13 points combining for a career high of 35 points. Balara recorded another six points, two assists and seven boards. Liz Forrest '14 (North Walpole, NH -- Fall Mountain), Breen Loney '14 (West Chesterfield, NH -- Keene) and Kelsey Geisler '15 (Staten Island, NY -- St. Peter's) each recorded six points respectively for the Soaring Eagles. Forrest contributed an additional eight rebounds and two steals to the squad, while Loney and Geisler recorded six rebounds, three assists and three steals combined.

EC will return to action on January 6th at 6:00 p.m. when they host Hartwick College in the first conference game of the 2011-12 season at the Speidel Gymnasium.
