Field Hockey Drops Non-Conference Tilt in Double Overtime Shootout at Wells

Box Score Wells 1 Elmira 0    2 OT Shootout

Aurora, NY –
The Elmira College Field Hockey team lost its first contest in the last three outings and got shut out for just the second time this season as it fell 1-0 in a double overtime shootout on the road to Wells College Monday afternoon. The win improves the Express to 3-6 overall, while the loss drops the Soaring Eagles to 3-5.

Elmira dominated the game as it held a 25-2 shots advantage in the contest, including a 14-0 advantage in the two overtime periods, yet the Express prevailed in a penalty stroke shootout. In the shootout each shooter gets eight seconds to shoot—if there is a shot and a save, the ball is live. However, once the eight seconds expire, a horn sounds and the attempt is over.

Wells won the penalty shootout in the fifth round. Courtney Bastian and Shelby Moszkowicz scored for the Express in the stroke off while Ashley Palmer '16 was the only EC player to score.

Overall in the contest the Purple and Gold held a 9-0 shots on goal advantage, but Kylie Nishioka came up huge in net for Wells stopping every shot she faced on the day. The EC defense proved to be a force as Lauren Thomas '14 (Marshfield, MA -- Marshfield) did not face a single shot on target in net for the Soaring Eagles.

Sarah Harden-Marshall '14 (Marathon, NY -- Marathon) and Erin Duffy '14 (Nashua, NH -- Nashua) paced Elmira with three shots on goal apiece, while Caitlin Sickau '16 (Eden, NY -- Eden) placed two shots on target.

The EC Field Hockey team returns home for a pivotal conference match-up with first place Stevens on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Murray Athletic Center.
