Second Half Blue Devil Surge Downs Women’s Soccer

Box Score

Elmira, NY – The Fredonia College Women's Soccer team used three second half goals to down host Elmira 4-1 Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action on Campus Field. The win improves the Blue Devils to 7-2-1 overall, while the loss drops the Soaring Eagles to 3-7-1.

The visitors got on the board first 12 minutes in when Catie Hale took a corner kick that was collected by Kristi Putzig in the box and she drilled a shot off the bottom of the crossbar and in for the early 1-0 lead. That advantage didn't last long as less than two minutes later the Nazareth Academy connection paid off for the Soaring Eagles. Emily Kelly '14 played a cross from the right side that was deflected and went right to Janine Swanson '14 who scored into the left corner netting.

Fredonia held a 9-4 shots advantage in the opening half including a 5-2 shots on goal mark. Megan Lowe '13 was key making four saves to keep it tied at one apiece. Both teams had two corner opportunities in the opening 45 minutes.

Six minutes out of halftime the Blue Devils reclaimed the lead as Reilly Condidorio controlled a ball in the center of the field and beat Lowe into the lower left corner to make it 2-1. Two minutes later Condidorio played a through ball up the left side to Katie Kleine who finished it into the right corner to open up a two-goal lead. The Blue Devils tacked on another score in the 61st minute when Mary Burton fed Kleine who beat Lowe near post.

In the 64th minute EC had a golden chance to get the game back within two when Kelsie DeKarski '14 played a beautiful cross to Sara Hovendon '15 whose header was saved by Fredonia keeper Meaghan Meszaros.

Fredonia held a 23-9 shots and 12-6 shots on goal advantage in the contest. Lowe finished with eight saves for EC, while Meszaros stopped five shots for the Blue Devils.

The EC Women's Soccer team returns to action Saturday when it hosts Daemen at 3:30 p.m. on Campus Field.
