Women’s Tennis Hangs on Late to Edge Lakers

Oswego, NY – The EC Women's Tennis team hung on late in the evening to edge out the Lakers of Oswego State University, 5-4, Tuesday at Romney Tennis Courts. With the win the Soaring Eagles improve to 5-5 overall, while the Lakers fall to 3-12 overall.

In the beginning the Purple and Gold controlled the doubles play getting wins at the first and third doubles spots. Micah Moskoff '14 and Ellen Plowman '16 put up a fight at the second doubles position, but eventually fell 9-7 giving Oswego its first point.

In singles action the matchups played very even with each position going back and forth. Kayla Fitzgerald '15 and Ayaka Yoshino '16 were the first singles matches to finish helping EC gain a 4-1 lead. However, the Lakers battled at the fourth, fifth and sixth singles spots tying up the match at 4-4. The match then came down to the first singles spot where it was a tough fight. After battling the cold elements, the darkness and her opponent Amy Schmidt '15 was able to climb out the victor (6-4, 6-3) to give EC another win on the season.

The Soaring Eagles will return to action Thursday when they travel to Keuka College in their final fall regular season dual match. The match is set to start at 4:00 p.m.
