Houghton, NY – The Elmira College Women's Volleyball team won three straight sets on its way to defeating Houghton College 3-1 (19-25, 25-13, 25-11, 25-21) on the road Tuesday evening. The win improves the Soaring Eagles to 11-9 overall and 6-1 in Empire 8 competition, while the loss drops the Highlanders to 12-8 overall and 4-3 in conference play.
Houghton got off to a hot start on its home court winning the first set 25-19 behind 15 kills and a .270 hitting percentage. However, the Purple and Gold responded holding the Highlanders to just a .035 hitting percentage over the final three sets as EC dominated winning all three frames 25-13, 25-11 and 25-21.

continued her brilliant play finishing with team-highs of 18 kills, 21 digs and a .222 hitting percentage.
Taryn Rumsey '14 tallied seven kills and 11 digs, while
Catherine Miller '14 was big defensively recording 17 digs.

was the catalyst with a match-high 34 assists, while
Amanda Matson '13
continued to be a fortress in the middle finishing with nine kills and five blocks.
he EC Women's Volleyball team returns to action Friday when it hosts the two day Elmira College Tri-Match. The Soaring Eagles will take on a talented Clarkson University team Friday at 7:00 p.m. in Speidel Gymnasium.
