Ithaca, NY – The EC Women's Basketball team suffered a tough loss on the road to Ithaca College, 66-46, in a conference battle on Tuesday evening at Ben Light Gymnasium. The Bombers improve to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in Empire 8 play, while the Soaring Eagles fall to 3-4 overall and 0-1 in conference action.
Within the first six minutes of the game the Bombers got ahead going on a 7-2 run. However, the Soaring Eagles were able to keep it close by making two straight jumpers to bring it within one basket. After the lead was narrowed down the Bombers took off on a 25-6 run and controlled the tempo for the rest of the half with the game coming to 32-12 midway through.
In the second half the Soaring Eagles played much tougher doubling their scoring effort with the help of
Maria Thannhauser '14 and
Jessica Zoltowski '14. However, the Bombers were able to stay on top and control the rest of the game with good defense and excellent rebounding.
Thannhauser and
Zoltowski lead both teams in scoring registering 18 and 15 points each, respectively.
Thannhauser added on seven rebounds, two steals and a block, while
Zoltowski recorded nine boards, an assist, a block and a steal.
Alex Balara '15 also contributed to the offense with seven points, six boards, four assists, two steals and a block.
The Purple and Gold will return to the court Friday, December 7th on the road facing St. John Fisher College in conference action. Game is set to start at 6:00 p.m.
