Men's Tennis Picks up Two Flights in 7-2 Loss at Naz

Pittsford, NY -- The EC Men's Tennis team played another tough match, but in the end fell 7-2 against Nazareth College Saturday afternoon at Mendon Racquet Club. The Soaring Eagles played strong in all nine matches, but struggled to pull off the upset. The Golden Flyers improve to 8-9 overall and 5-1 in conference, while the Soaring Eagles fall to 3-7 overall and 1-6 in conference.

At second and third doubles EC started off strong converting on early break point chances. The third doubles duo, George Smith '13 (Watseka, IL -- Granite City) and Dylan Christman '15 (Wellsboro, PA -- Wellsboro), were able to hold off the Golden Flyers to secure an 8-2 victory. However, Gorav Simlote '13 (Syracuse, NY -- Jamesville-Dewitt) and Sam Pine '14 (Elmira, NY -- Thomas Edison), at second doubles, were not able to close out the match losing late 8-5. Nazareth cruised at first doubles, winning 8-1, and took an early 2-1 team lead.

In singles Nazareth was able to dominate the first, third and fourth spots giving up a total seven games. At the second singles spot, Simlote was able to rule the match winning easily 6-3, 6-1. Smith and Christman once again played extremely well at the fifth and sixth spots, but were not able to close out either match. Smith was able to win the first set in the tiebreaker, but could not edge Nazareth's Nick Lord who dominated the second set and won the third set tiebreaker 10-7. Christman was able to come back from a 5-2 deficit in the first set to force a tiebreaker yet fell short in the end resulting in a 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 win for Zach Morley of Nazareth.

The EC Men's Tennis team will return to action Wednesday, April 25th when it travels to Ithaca College in another tough conference match up starting at 4:00 p.m.
