Live Coverage Coverage
Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College women's basketball opens the 2013-14 season tomorrow, November 16th as they take on Manhattanville College in the first round of the Emerson Tip-Off Tournament.  Tip-off against Manhattanville is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the Bobbi Brown & Steven Plofker Gym in Boston, MA.

Opening Weekend
For the first time since the 2008-09 season, the Elmira College women's basketball team will open the season without playing Cortland State.  Elmira begins their 2013-14 campaign by taking on Manhattanville College on a neutral court at the Emerson Tip-Off Tournament.

Season Openers
Elmira has struggled in season opening games over the last 12 seasons, going 3-9 in those contests.  EC's last season opening win came on November 11, 2007 when the Soaring Eagles topped Delaware Valley College, 73-52.

Veteran Status
A whopping 12 players from last year's team are back for another run with the EC women's basketball squad.  It is the most returning players Head Coach Shannon Howley has had in her six seasons at the helm of the women's basketball program

Most Wins in Five Years
Elmira produced a 9-16 record last season.  EC's nine wins is the most the program has had in five years – the Soaring Eagles totaled an identical 9-16 record in the 2008-09 season.

Quality from the Stripe
EC has three players that rank among the best free throw shooters in Elmira College history.  Jessica Zoltowski '14, Maria Thannhauser '14 and Alex Balara '15 are all inside the Top 11 in terms of free throw percentage in EC history.  Thannhauser is fourth with a percentage of 78.5; Zoltowski is close behind at sixth at 75.9 and Balara is 11th at 74.2.

Letting it Fly
Last season the Soaring Eagles launched 493 three-point attempts, connecting 129 times for an average of 5.2 three-point makes per game and a 5.4 average in Empire 8 Conference games.  Elmira's 5.2 makes per game was second most in the conference and their 5.4 makes in conference play led the Empire 8.

First in the E8
Aside from shooting the ball well from beyond the arc, the Elmira women found a great deal of success shooting from the charity stripe.  The Soaring Eagles averaged a conference best 13.3 made free throws per contest.

Five or Less
Elmira had nine games last season that were decided by five points or less.  The Soaring Eagles went 3-6 in those games.  However, Elmira figured out how to close out those tight games as all their last three games that were decided by five or less resulted in wins.

Scoring Options
Elmira's one-two punch of Jessica Zoltowski '14 and Maria Thannhauser '14 will be looked upon to carry the load offensively again for the Soaring Eagles.  Last season the two classmates combined for 713 points, accounting for 49.76% of Elmira's scoring.

Scoring Champ
Two-time Empire 8 All-Conference First Team selection Jessica Zoltowski '14 not only led Elmira, but the entire Empire 8 Conference in points per game with 16.9.  She was one of only three players in the Empire 8 to average 16 points or more.
