Pittsford, NY – The EC Men's Hockey team was able to shut out the Nazareth College Golden Flyers, 2-0, Friday evening at the Sports Centre at Monroe Community College. The Soaring Eagles improve to 9-12-0 overall and 4-7-0 in ECAC West action with its first shut out of the season, while the Golden Flyers fall to 6-13-1 overall and 1-9-0 in conference play.
The Soaring Eagles were able to take advantage early and punish the Golden Flyers with a score at the 5:00 minute mark.
Carter Shinkaruk '16 passed it up to
Josh Burnell '15 who found
Jesper Strale '14 to put it into the back of the net. The Golden Flyers were able to play tough defense for the rest of the period and keep the game within reach after the first.
The game continued to go back and forth in the second period with EC getting the upper hand at the 12:13 mark.
Rob Simpson '16 passed it up to
Shinkaruk who passed it back out to
Tyler Campbell '13. Campbell waited a couple seconds then fired a slap shot home for the 2-0 Elmira lead.
In the final period of action no one was able to find the back of the net, but EC was able to hold off the Golden Flyers for its first shut out of the season.
Ryan deMelo '15 played in net earning his first career shutout as a Soaring Eagle and making 33 stops on the night. Joe Gladnick had a great game in net for Nazareth making 47 stops.
The EC Men's Hockey team will return to action tomorrow night when it hosts Nazareth College at the Murray Athletic Center starting at 7:00 p.m. supporting the Wounded Warrior Project.
