Men’s Soccer Comes up Short against SUNY Canton

Canton, NY -- Despite recording their second-highest shot total of the season, the Elmira College men's soccer team fell on the a road to SUNY Canton, 4-1.  With the loss, Elmira falls to 0-10-2 on the season while the Roos of Canton improve to 9-4-1.

Things got off to a shaky start for Elmira as the Soaring Eagles scored an own goal in the 20th minute on a misplayed ball in the back line.  Six minutes later, Canton took a two-goal lead on a goal by Abdulai Jagana.  Jagana's goal was created by a Nick Escalante shot that was initially saved by Elmira's Jordan Dougherty '16, but the rebound would find Jagana who would bury it for the game's second goal.

However, Elmira answered 50 seconds later when Chris Aristizabal '16 delivered a strike from 20 yards out that found the left corner of the goal, cutting the Canton lead to one.  Rookie Ronaldo Charlton '18 was credited with an assist on the Artistizabal goal.  For Aristizabal, today's goal is the first of his three-year EC career.

Elmira nearly entered the halftime break with just a one-goal deficit but Canton's Devin Gruneisen would punch home the Roos' third goal of the game in the 43rd minute.  Canton's goal was scored in a similar fashion as their second as Gruneisen scored off a rebound.

Canton would score their fourth and final goal of the game in the 83rd minute as their leading scorer, Escalante, netted his 14th goal of the season.

EC's Dougherty finished today's game with eight saves, upping his season total to 73.  The Soaring Eagles will look to bounce back from today's loss this Saturday, October 18th when Elmira travels to Alfred University for a 7:00 p.m. Empire 8 Conference battle.
