Cortland, NY -- The Elmira College women's volleyball team could not continue their recent strong play as they fell to SUNY Cortland, 3-0. EC's attack was evenly-spread with
Paola Ortiz '16 leading the way with five kills.
EC kept it close with Cortland early on in the first set, rallying to tie the match at 6-6, but from there on, the Red Dragons took control. Cortland opened up a 14-6 lead by winning the next eight points before closing out a 25-13 first set win. The final two sets were of similar nature as EC dropped those 25-16 and 25-12 for the straight-set defeat.
Helping Ortiz on the offensive end were
Kelsey Ross'16,
Kierstin Derr'16, and
Ashley Heiman'16 who tallied four, three, and three kills, respectively.
Sami Hanes'16, in addition to her 16 assists, led the way defensively with five digs.
The Soaring Eagles close out the 2014 season with a trip to Hoboken, NJ for the New York State Regional Challenge where EC will go up against four of the top teams in the state. The Purple and Gold open the weekend with a match against RIT on Friday, October 31st at 4:00 p.m.
