Pine Valley, NY --
Playing in their second home match of the spring season, the Elmira College men's tennis team (2-3) powered past Penn State-Behrend, 9-0.  For Elmira, it marks their first win of the spring season and EC's first 9-0 victory since last year's season finale against Keuka College.

Elmira dominated in doubles play, dropping just five games en route to sweeping all three matches to take a quick 3-0 lead. EC's second doubles tandem of Austin Mansell '16 and Satchal Waters '16 got things started for the Soaring Eagles, scoring an 8-1 victory for Elmira's first point of the match.  Shortly after, Elmira's first and third doubles teams would register identical 8-2 wins at their respective positions.

Entering singles play, Elmira only needed two points for the victory but similar to doubles, the Purple and Gold would sweep all six singles matches for a 9-0 win.

Mansell was the first Soaring Eagle off the court as he blanked his opponent at the third position, 6-0, 6-0.  EC newcomer Neal Statts '17 would clinch Elmira's win with his first singles win of his collegiate career, sweeping his opponent at the sixth spot, 6-0, 6-0.  Statts was also a winner in doubles, marking the first time in his career that he has recorded two wins in a single match.

Waters was the next Elmira netter to pick up a win as he dropped just two games en route to a 6-1, 6-1 win at fifth singles.  EC's number one singles player, Pavle Vashakidze '16, gave Elmira their sixth point of the match as he cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 finish, the third singles match EC won without surrendering a single point.

Doubles partners Sam Pine '14 and Keith Bujak '15 were the last two players to finish today's match as they both picked up their first singles wins of the spring season.  Bujak had a battle at the second spot as he pulled out a tight first set in a tiebreaker before handling his opponent in the second set for a 7-6(5), 6-3 win.  Pine on the other hand had no troubles at the fourth spot, winning his match with ease, 6-0, 6-1.

Elmira will be back in action on March 8th when they host Daemen College for a 1:00 p.m. match at the Murray Athletic Center in Pine Valley, NY.
