Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College men's soccer team will be in search of their first win of the season this weekend as the Soaring Eagles travel to Pittsford, NY to take on St. John Fisher College in EC's Empire 8 Conference opener.

Last Time Out
In their last contest, the Soaring Eagles were edged 1-0 by visiting Rochester Institute of Technology.  Elmira surrendered the game's only goal in the 39th minute and were unable to find the equalizer, leading to the one-goal defeat.  The Purple and Gold were outshot 20-to-8 and EC starting netminder, Jordan Dougherty '16, came up with eight saves in 90 minutes of action.

Scouting the Cardinals
St. John Fisher welcomes the Soaring Eagles to Growney Stadium this weekend with a 1-5-1 overall record.  After beginning the season with a 1-1-1 record, the Cardinals dropped four consecutive contests and have been outscored 9-1 in those four games. Chris Ferrara will be a player to watch this weekend as the senior forward leads Fisher with four points on two goals.  One of his two goals came as the game-winner in the Cardinals' lone victory of the season against Morrsiville State.

Empire 8 Conference Opener
Elmira has gone 4-8 in Empire 8 Conference opening games since the 2002 season.  However, Elmira has won four consecutive conference opening games, outscoring their opponents 10-3 in those victories.  The Soaring Eagles have opened Empire 8 Conference play against the Cardinals two times in the last 10 years, once in 2006 and the other in 2004.  In those two games, St. John Fisher claimed a pair of wins at Growney Stadium.

A Look Ahead
Following Saturday's game against St. John Fisher, the Soaring Eagles will return home to host the Warriors of Lycoming College on Tuesday, September 23rd at 4:00 p.m.
