Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College women's basketball team will begin Empire 8 Conference play this weekend as the Purple and Gold will travel to Ithaca College tonight at 6:00 and then host St. John Fisher College tomorrow January 3rd at 2:00 p.m.

Balara Leading The Way
Against Rugers-Camden, Alex Balara '15 led the EC women with 16 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals. In just her third game of the season, Balara is averaging 18.0 points per game and has led the team in scoring in two of the three games.

Loya With a Double-Double
Meghan Loya '16 has come close to her first career double-double twice this season before completing the feat against Rutgers-Camden. Against Pitt.-Bradford she pulled down 14 rebounds, but came two points shy of a double-double and against Centenary College she tallied 14 points and nine rebounds. However, against the Scarlet Raptors, she produced 12 points and 10 rebounds to post her first career double-double.

Elmira From Downtown
The EC women have been proficient from beyond the arc this season making 33.7 percent from the three-point range. The Purple and Gold lead the Empire 8 Conference in three-point field goal percentage, holding a 0.6 percent lead over Ithaca College.

EC Blocking Shots
The Soaring Eagles have recorded 21 blocked shots this season. The EC women average 3.00 blocks per game, ranking second in the Empire 8 Conference. The Purple and Gold are just 0.17 behind conference leader Stevens Institute of Technology. Danielle Cleary '18 and Megan Loya '16 lead the Purple and Gold, and rank tied for fourth in the conference, in block shots per game with 0.9.
