Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College women's basketball team is gearing up for two Empire 8 contests this weekend. The Soaring Eagles will travel to St. John Fisher College tomorrow, February 6th at 6:00 p.m and then the EC women will return home on Saturday, February 6th to host Nazareth College at 2:00 p.m.
Heiman with a Career-GameAshley Heiman '16, who is known for her volleyball skills at EC, is coming into her own on the basketball court in her first season with the Purple and Gold. Against SUNY Cortland, Heiman posted six points, four rebounds, and two steals in 15 minutes. This is the second time this season she has played 15 minutes or more in a game and posted a career-high in points, rebounds, and steals.
Balara with 20-PlusAlex Balara '15 posted 21 points, on 7-of-13 shooting, in the 53-52 win over Utica College. She has posted three 20-point games this season and in those games, the Purple and Gold have gone 2-1.
EC's Key to Success?The Purple and Gold made 42.9 percent of their shots from three-point range in the 53-52 win over Utica College. This is the seventh game this season that the Soaring Eagles have made over 35.0 percent of their shots from beyond the arc, posting a 6-1 record in those games.
Pochkar's Breakout YearAfter averaging a combined 3.3 points and 2.3 rebounds per game in her through her first two seasons,
Karli Pochkar '16 has had a breakout junior season, nearly tripling her career per game averages. She enters tonight's game averaging 9.6 points and 5.9 rebounds per contest which rank second and third on the team, respectively. Prior to this season, Pochkar posted double-digit points just twice in her career with a career-high of 15. In 17 games this season she has tallied nine games with 10-plus points including a career-high 21 points.
