Men's Tennis Looks to Keep Streak Going Against Hartwick

Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College men's tennis team heads out on the road for their first Empire 8 Conference away match of the season as they take on Hartwick College later this afternoon. EC will look to extend their win streak to six matches when they take the courts at SUNY Delhi at 4:00 p.m.

Five Wins and Counting
EC picked up a pair of 7-2 Empire 8 Conference wins over the weekend against Houghton College and Alfred University for their fourth and fifth wins in a row. Elmira is now 5-2 and 2-0 in conference, the first time in program history EC has started their E8 schedule with a victory.

10-0 in March
Austin Mansell '16 and Satchal Waters '16 both went a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles against the Highlanders and Saxons, keeping their records in the month of March perfect. Mansell and Waters, individually, have won 10 straight matches and hold a 10-0 record in EC's March matches. Their last losses came on February 14th against Roberts Wesleyan College.

A Bit of a Mystery
Today's Empire 8 match is Hartwick College's first match of the 2015 season. The Hawks return every player from their 2014 starting lineup and have added newcomer John Talbot to the mix as well. Jefferson Monastoque is Hartwick's most successful returner as he led the Hawks with four singles wins and three doubles wins, playing at the fifth and second spots, respectively.

Series History
EC and Hartwick have squared-off 17 times since the 2000 season, with two of those matches being played in the Empire 8 Conference Tournament. The Hawks own the advantage in the series with a 13-4 record, however, Elmira has had much more success in recent seasons, winning three of the last four matchups, including the last two.
